“The anniversary of Roe v. Wade is a memorial service, a day of remembrance, for those lost to us through abortion and for the women who have suffered and even died because of it, additional victims of a predatory industry,” said SFLA’s Kristan Hawkins. “While this year’s events in the nation’s capital are not what we all planned for, the Pro-Life Generation will still #Stand4Life.”    WASHINGTON D.C. (01-15-2021) – “The March for Life is an important event for the pro-life movement because it is evidence of our on-going grief for the lives lost to abortion. It reminds our political and cultural leaders

Pro-life Religious Leaders Ask Democratic Party to Rethink Their Platform’s Abortion Stance

The Democratic Party platform accepts NO abortion restrictions or protection laws like the Hyde Amendment, but pro-life religious leaders are asking the party to rethink its radical abortion views.

A recent press release from Democrats for Life said that 100 religious leaders, clergy, and theologians issued a letter urging the party to “remove extreme abortion policies, which will make it more inclusive towards pro-life voters and moderate voters of faith.”

Some of the letter’s signers include professors from Fordham University, the University of Notre Dame, and The King’s College, as well as various religious leaders such as:

  • Sr. Anita Louise Lowe, OSB, prioress of The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Indiana
  • Bishop John Stowe: Episcopal President of Pax Christi USA
  • Bishop Talbert W. Swan II: Assistant General Secretary at the Church of God in Christ and President of the Greater Springfield NAACP
  • Rev. Dr. Gabriel Salguero: President of the National Latino Evangelical Association, and former member of Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

The letter comes as the Democratic party is discussing the release of their 2020 platform, which will be approved at the Democratic National Convention on August 17th. One of the most problematic additions proposed in the platform’s draft is adding codification for Roe v. Wade to their list of abortion support. Newsweek reported that presidential candidate Joe Biden’s new “Agenda for Women” also includes codifying Roe, which would make unrestricted abortion access a federal law by codifying it into the Constitution.

The current platform already calls for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment –which protects taxpayers from being forced to fund abortions — reinstating full funding for Planned Parenthood, and removing all federal and state laws restricting abortions.

The letter asked the Democratic Party “to embrace policies that protect both women and children,” and “to recognize the inviolable human dignity of the child, before and after birth.”
