In a highly emotional speech, Kanye West said in his recent presidential campaign event that he had wanted to abort his and wife Kim Kardashian West’s first child, North, but had a change of heart. “My mom saved my life. My dad wanted to abort me,” said Kanye. “I almost killed my daughter!”

During an appearance in South Carolina, Kanye West broke down in tears explaining that him and his wife, Kim Kardashian, almost aborted their daughter, North. He went on to explain that his father had almost aborted him, and his mother had saved his life.

He explained that when his wife (then-girlfriend) told him she was pregnant, he originally thought having a child would disrupt his rapper lifestyle. However, Kanye said he had a “vision from God” telling him not to abort their child. Shortly following this apparently supernatural event, Kardashian called Kanye and told him they were going to have the baby. He said he was overjoyed with her decision and commended his wife, “She brought North into the world, even if I didn’t want to. She stood up and protected my child.”
When an attendee asked why he was against abortion, he said that while he understands the hardships that women with unplanned pregnancies may face — such as the absence of the father or impoverishment — he believes that “God will still make a way … society is set up in a way where we feel he won’t make a way.” But he asked the crowd how many people actually meet women who chose to keep their child and say it was “the worst thing.” He then affirmed that instead there are stories of women who say it was “the best thing.”
Kanye also referenced his recent deleted tweet showing a 6-month-old baby in utero admitting that although he later deleted it because of harsh media backlash, he wanted to show that it is truly a separate human being that is killed in abortion.
“No more Plan B, Plan A,” he said.
Whether or not you’re a Yeezy fan, he is one of many celebrities who have used their platform to advocate for the dignity of human life.
