Recently published in USA Today is an excellent op-ed by Ashley McGuire of the Catholic Association.
McGuire writes, “There are public relations problems and there are public relations crises. Then there is what Planned Parenthood is experiencing with the departure of its former president, Dr. Leana Wen.
Wen, the first doctor to run the abortion chain in nearly five decades, is not going quietly into the night. Rather, she is essentially blowing the whistle on the organization on her way out the door, making her the most senior staff member ever to publicly duke it out with the billion dollar behemoth….As she makes clear, the board that hired her tasked her with refashioning the organization — beleaguered by things like prior President Cecile Richards’ highly publicized admission that Planned Parenthood doesn’t offer mammograms, or campaigns catching them offering ultrasounds only to confirmfetal gestational age for an abortion — as one that is about women’s health, not just abortion advocacy.”
Which is of course, 100% true. It wasn’t that Wen was opposed to abortion–but she was stuck in the older Planned Parenthood model, which relied on the 3% myth to downplay their love of abortion. But facts don’t lie, and Planned Parenthood’s annual reports showed how central abortion is to their business. Consider our analysis of their most recent annual report found the following:
* Abortions increased by over 3%
*Adoption referrals dropped by more than 25%
*Planned Parenthood does one adoption referral for every 117 abortions
*Planned Parenthood only treats one-fifth of the STDs they diagnose
