FREDERICKSBURG, VA (12-21-18)–
From Kristi Hamrick, spokesperson and media strategist for Students for Life of America:
“Anyone surprised by the news that Planned Parenthood has reportedly treated the needs of pregnant employees callously hasn’t been paying attention to their business model.
“But the story raises the important issue of how to accommodate pregnant and parenting employess, which was the topic of a recent op-ed from Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins, who personally favors the flexible spending plan Sen. Rubio advocates.
“Our goal with any parenting team member is to ensure that their job works for them as well as for Students for Life. As working mother Kristan Hawkins, our president, works to create the best environment for parenting team members under the limitations of a non-profit organization as well as advocating for family-friendly policies. Our current policy is to add a paid week of maternity leave to a generous sick and vacation time policy, as well as allowing parents to bring children up to 6 months old to work with them. Our entire structure is set up for flexibility. We have very few team members who come into an office every day and many of our parents, such as myself, work from home. SFLA welcomes team members to arrange work hours around parenting, as I know first hand. And it’s working. In fact, many of our team members are parents themselves; around 30%, including me.”
