In the spirit of Christmas, Students for Life of America is proud to present the 2018 Naughty and Nice List. Santa’s got one for all the children across the country, but this one is for universities that act like children. On the Naughty List, you’ll find the best of 2018’s schools that behaved poorly towards their pro-life students. On the Nice List, you’ll see the schools who understand the Constitution and accept that they aren’t the rulers of the free world. Let’s get started!
THE NAUGHTY LIST
North Dakota State University
North Dakota State University is on the Naughty List for sending out a warning e-mail to the entire school about the presence of the They Feel Pain tour display. This effort to ostracize NDSU Collegians for Life was led by a vice-provost at the school, Laura Oster-Aaland, who also, probably just by coincidence, is a Democratic Party district leader in North Dakota.
University of Idaho
University of Idaho is on the Naughty List for censoring pro-life viewpoints at their Women’s Center. When Vicky Dilone, an SFLA vice-president, wanted to write about her pro-life views, the Women’s Center director, Lysa Salsbury, removed her blog post and then vowed to censor and monitor everything else she wrote for the Women’s Center… until she faced tremendous backlash and the Women’s Center reposted the blog. Ball State
Ball State is on the Naughty List for trying to deny $300 in funding to the Students for Life group to host a Pregnant on Campus event. They claimed that they would not give funding to religious or political groups. Not only is this an unconstitutional policy, they didn’t even apply it consistently.
THE NICE LIST
Virginia Tech University
Though a handful of feminists at the school put up trigger warnings in front of the Students for Life display, the university was incredibly helpful during a 5-week period when the Students for Life group held multiple large-scale events in the middle of campus, including displaying over 200,000 socks and hosting a former abortionist. Way to go!
Miami-Oxford
After repeated vandalizations against the Students for Life group, the university installed security at the display, sent out an e-mail condemning the vandalism, and offered to help pay to replace some of the materials damaged. The Dean of Students also met with the Students for Life group.
Liberty University
Liberty University’s student government is working with the school’s pro-life Lifeline group to institute a series of policy changes, including letting pregnant students stay in residence halls, and changing other policies to create a life-affirming culture on campus. Watch below:

Ball State
Ball State University is on both lists. They are on the Nice List for working with the Students for Life group to change campus policy to allow for expectant mother parking permits on campus. You can read more here.
University of Idaho
UI also finds itself on both lists. After the backlash against censoring students, the president of the university reached out personally to Vicky Dilone and met with her to apologize. Lysa Salsbury, the Women’s Center director who ordered the censorship, also apologized, and in the spirit of the season, we’ll assume this was a turning of the heart, and not just a reaction to what we can only assume were numerous e-mails and phone calls criticizing her decision.
